FRO-50

high gain, long chassis, big iron, Expandable

Fully customisable, it can be programmable, MIDI switching, self monitoring, and ready to tour. It can be made to deliver the demands of any tour or studio situation.

“It wasn’t designed to give you a huge grin as you play, but that’s pretty much what happens. The first time I heard it rip, I had a smile about one and half times the width of my face.” – Jonny Brelliott

So… How? WHat? Why?

Jonny: “I’ve always loved the steely sound of Selmer Treble’n’Bass, and I had a couple of JCM800 50W transformers, ordered a nice big choke, and ta-da! A Selmer Treble channel clone. “

“I had quite a bit of chassis left. I also had a microcontroller board, a few valve holes left, and a page open with all the SLO stages there, and it just kind of happened. I could dial between the Selmer Treble’n’Bass and an overdrive version of that, and the fully saturated sound of the king of the high gain amps, but going through the Selmer power train.”

It doesn’t need to stop there – it can be re-designed to any spec you like, so why not?

What makes it tick

The original front end, and back end are pretty much entirely Selmer T’n’B designs, using EL34 output valves.

The mains and output transformers are Dagnall JCM800 spec, choke is Hammond, but matching the original Selmer spec.

You can choose to use AmpModula PCB modules make up the various sections, including the SLO based overdrive and FXsend / return. Switching is carried out by a dedicated switching array, configured by an easily obtainable micro-controller. You can also choose a more traditional build method and simple transistor / relay switching.
